Boys vs. Girls - Day 29

This was supposed to go on Day 14, but it didn't so here it is now.

Some of us have grown up in churches where the guys just didn't talk to girls and girls didn't talk to guys. Blech...

It seems as if there's some sort of unstated rule that all conversations must be awkward and not be very edifying.

Why? I sometimes find that the best conversations can be had with girls. Sure, the relationship is going to be a different one then you have with your guy friends. Of course you're going to need to be more careful with these relationships. You don't want it to become unedifying. You want to stay away from attaching your hearts to one another.

In the end it's because we're not treating each other as brothers and sisters in Christ.

1 Timothy 5:1-2 Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.

Are our hearts pure? Are our actions Godly? Are we loving one another in Christ?

P.S.

I sometimes wonder if this has a lot to do with boys and girls not getting married. Is it because we've created this awkward arena that we aren't able to communicate in? Is it because we can't be friends without thinking of another person as "marriage material?"

I don't know.

So... you sayin' we should relate to our sisters in Christ like you're relating to your sister in the pic?

:-D

Kidding. Amen and amen.

God honoring boy-girl relationships do not happen inside the church (and outside) because: one side of the coin lets boys and girls collide and they do not make any restrictions on flirting or loose interactions. The other side puts too much restriction, they discourage boy-girl interactions only if absolutely necessary, which is probably saying "Will you marry me?". I'll admit it, that was joke and not realistic!

Having edifying and joyful relationships is something to be sought for!

I agree. If you let your heart become attached to a young girl, you are letting go of the reins and letting nature take it's course, and it does, that's why so many fall prey to it. Love between a man and a woman is a great thing that God has created, but only at the right time and with the right conditions that God has laid down in his law.

I think the answer to your marriage question is because Satan wants the family destroyed. The nuclear family is so powerful. I talked to a friend a few years younger than me, about having children. He said he wants to have as few children as possible because then he could provide more finances for them. I was really bothered by that statement, because he values material items, more than a children, more than souls. And he is a popular guy among the youth group at his church...go figure huh? I think the reason why we see less marriage, is because we value the world, more than we value people, that was my friend's reason.

Oh, this is so true. My sisters and brother and I are striving to talk about important things with ALL of the young people we see regularly, instead of just girls with girls and the boys with the boys, as we used to. But it's hard to know how to open up ''deep'' and important conversations!!!
